The WLtoys XK K170 UH-60L Black Hawk RC helicopter brings the look of the real UH-60L into a compact electric model that is easy to fly but still feels like a proper hobby grade heli. A 1106 11200KV brushless main motor and 720 hollow cup tail motor provide strong power, driving a four blade flybarless rotor head that gives smooth lift and good forward speed. A 6-axis gyro works together with air pressure altitude hold to keep the model stable in the hover and through gentle manoeuvres, which helps new pilots build confidence while still allowing more experienced flyers to explore banked turns and smooth circuits.
The K170 is controlled by a 2.4GHz 4-channel transmitter with adjustable rudder settings, one key takeoff and landing, low voltage alerts and the ability to swap between left hand and right hand throttle modes. This makes it easy to set up for different pilots and to keep track of battery state in the air. The supplied 3.7V 800mAh 20C LiPo battery gives around 8 minutes of flying time, and charges in about 120 minutes with the dedicated USB charger. Yes, the K170 can be flown both indoors and outdoors as long as you have enough clear space. Indoors it is best in a large lounge, double garage, hall or similar open area where you can keep well away from walls, ceilings and people. Outdoors it is comfortable in gardens, courtyards, parks and sports fields, especially in calm or light wind conditions.
The K170 is a solid upgrade from toy grade helis. It has a brushless main motor, 4 channel control, a four blade flybarless head and a 6 axis gyro with altitude hold, so it flies more like a hobby helicopter but still has stabilisation and one key takeoff and landing to help newer pilots.
On the supplied 3.7V 800mAh battery you can usually expect about 7 to 8 minutes of mixed flying per pack. A full charge with the included USB charger takes roughly 120 minutes. If you want longer sessions it is worth having two or three flight batteries and rotating them.
The K170 is larger and more powerful than the K127, with a brushless main motor, four blade head and a scale Black Hawk fuselage. It handles wind better and has more presence in the air, but it also needs a bit more space and respect. The K127 is more of a compact trainer, where the K170 feels like a small scale heli that you can still fly with stabilisation help.
It is sensible to keep at least one or two extra flight batteries, a spare set of main and tail blades and a spare main gear. Those are the parts most likely to be used after a hard landing. A better USB or multi port charger for 3.7V packs is also useful if you plan to fly often and rotate several batteries in a session.
