The King Stick Foam Board Kit from The Flite Lab is a precision laser cut RC airplane designed for easy assembly and dependable everyday flying. With a 967mm wingspan, 735mm fuselage length and a typical all up weight of around 600g, it offers stable handling, smooth landings and a wide performance range that suits both relaxed circuits and basic aerobatics.

This Rapid Build Series model is cut from high quality Creator Foam Board with matching ply parts, carbon tube pushrods and pre bent landing gear to create a strong but lightweight airframe. Proven foam board construction techniques keep the build straightforward, while the combination of wing area and 31g/dm² wing loading gives a forgiving feel in the air with enough authority for loops, rolls and general sport flying.

The kit is supplied as a bare airframe and hardware set so you can reuse radio gear you already own or choose your own electronics. A typical setup uses 4x 9g servos, a brushless motor capable of around 800g of thrust, a 9 inch propeller, a suitable ESC and a 3S LiPo pack, controlled by at least a 4 channel radio system. A downloadable build manual is included to guide you step by step from the first glue joint through to final radio setup and maiden flight.

King Stick FAQ

The King Stick is rated at 2 out of 5 for both build difficulty and flying difficulty, so it is suitable for newer pilots who are comfortable with basic RC flying and want a forgiving everyday model, as well as more experienced pilots who want a relaxed platform for sport and mild aerobatics.
The King Stick is designed as a stable sport and trainer style foam board model that handles relaxed cruising, basic aerobatics and everyday flying well. The wide performance range and stable handling make it a good choice for general park flying, circuits, touch and go landings and simple aerobatic practice like loops and rolls.
To complete the King Stick you will need 4 x 9g servos, a brushless motor that can produce around 800g of thrust, a 9 inch propeller, a suitable ESC, a LiPo battery and at least a 4 channel transmitter and receiver. These items are not included in the kit and must be supplied separately.
The King Stick has a wingspan of 967mm and a length of 735mm. Typical all up weight is around 600g with a dry weight of about 480g and a wing loading of 31g per square decimetre, which gives a good balance of stability and agility for everyday flying.
The airframe is laser cut from high quality Creator Foam Board with matching ply parts, and it is reinforced with carbon tubes, piano wire pushrods and pre bent landing gear. This combination gives a strong, lightweight structure that stands up well to regular flying and the odd hard landing, and is straightforward to repair with foam safe glue if needed.
In the box you get laser cut foam board parts for the fuselage and wing, laser cut ply parts for the firewall, landing gear support and control horns, carbon tubes with piano wire pushrods, pre bent landing gear, wheel collars and a Velcro battery strap. A downloadable King Stick build manual is provided under the attachments tab on the product page so you can follow a step by step guide during assembly.
With its 967mm wingspan and tricycle style landing gear the King Stick is happiest on a small to medium club field or open sports field with reasonably short grass or a smooth strip. It does not need a full size runway, but you should have enough open space to complete safe circuits, approaches and go arounds without flying over people, roads or buildings. This is based on typical practice for similar 1m class foam board sport models.
The King Stick uses a straightforward foam board and ply construction with laser cut parts and clearly defined glue joints, so most builders familiar with foam board techniques can complete the airframe over a few relaxed evenings rather than weeks. A hot glue gun or quality foam safe glue, a sharp knife for trimming, a small drill or reamer for control linkages and basic hand tools are usually sufficient. Actual build time depends on your experience and how much time you spend on finishing and radio setup.
