The J3 Super Cub Foam Board Kit is a semi scale foam board RC trainer from The Flite Lab Rapid Build Series, designed for smooth, predictable flying and short field performance. With a 1010mm wingspan, 703mm fuselage length and a typical all up weight of around 560g, it offers high wing stability, gentle stall behaviour and the ability to lift off and land in relatively short distances while still looking like a classic Cub in the air.
The airframe is built from precision laser cut Creator Foam and ply parts, with carbon pushrods and piano wire Z bends used for the control surfaces. The high wing layout with built in dihedral gives natural stability, which helps new pilots keep the model level and under control, while the generous wing area and large wheels improve ground handling and allow operations from typical club or park field grass. More experienced pilots can use the same airframe to practise realistic scale style flying, including coordinated turns, slips and crosswind approaches, rather than extreme aerobatics.
Electronics are based around common, affordable gear so that the finished J3 Super Cub remains cost effective. The recommended setup uses 4x 9g servos, a brushless motor of roughly 800g thrust at about 1700KV, a 9x6 electric propeller, a 30A ESC and a suitable 3S LiPo pack, driven by at least a 4 channel transmitter and receiver. A detailed build manual is available as a downloadable PDF under the attachments tab, walking you through the assembly, setup and first flights so that newer builders can follow along step by step and experienced pilots can get the model in the air quickly.
